In this quick episode i discuss how and why you should seal the grout and tile of your bathroom.

Application is very easy to do simply work in a small manageable section usually 3 x 3 and apply the sealer using a soft grouting sponge.
For glazed tiles where sealer won t adhere you ll need to seal only the grout lines using an applicator brush or specialty applicator bottle with a rolling wheel on top.
However with unglazed porcelain tile the use of a sealer may or not be needed for several reasons which we will discuss here.
Tile sealer is available at hardware stores.
What a tile rated sealer will do is to penetrate the surface allowing it to protect the surface.

Glazeguard gloss sealer is developed specifically for ceramic and porcelain tiles.
Once the tile is dry spray the sealer on to the surface of the tile allow it to soak in for about 5 minutes then wipe the excess away with a damp sponge.
This product is a water based sealer that provides ample protection over the entire surface including grout and tiles.
Prime to seal it and let dry.
To do so make sure all of the tiles are intact and secure.
Whichever tool you choose.
It also dries with a no sheen finish for a natural look.
Use an acrylic type because it is easier to work with than a sealer using mineral spirits and it won t.
You may also paint this area if only tiling a portion of the wall to minimize cut in work around the tile.
Pour some acrylic tile sealer into a container.
That s all there is to it.
Satin ceramic and porcelain tile sealer.
Layout is important to the finished product.
Find the middle of the area to be tiled and work out from there.
It will put a clear sealer across the floor tile and grout giving it a high gloss wet look appearance as well as provide a barrier that will protect against chemicals and soiling and make the floor much easier to clean.
Then clean the tile before you seal it.

Since all tile sealers the home depot sells are water based using gloves are optional to wear.
With glazed porcelain there is not a need or benefit to using a sealer because the various types of glaze used to make this type of tile truly impervious.
Choose a solvent based sealer for ceramic and porcelain tile or a water based sealer for natural stone tile.
Remove the tile and prepare the wall according to the corresponding instructions above or tile over the existing tile.
If existing tiles are beyond repair remove the tile and install a piece of wallboard in its place.
